If you’re starting to explore solar for your home or business, you might be wondering:“What actually happens once I say yes?”
At OneSun, we walk you through every step of the solar project, from start to finish, so you always feel confident moving forward. We’ve designed a process that’s smooth, transparent, and low-stress, so you always know what to expect.
Here’s how it works:
1. Consultation
We start with a free consultation to design a system that fits your energy needs, budget, and long-term goals.
This is where we talk through things like:
Your current and future usage
Roof layout and sun exposure
Financial options (cash vs loan)
Timeline and priorities
Every home and homeowner is different, so your system will be customized to meet your needs. We offer consultations in person or by phone, whichever works best for you.
2. Site Survey
Once your project scope is locked in, we schedule a site survey. During this visit, we:
Inspect your roof condition
Take precise on-site measurements
Document electrical + structural details
This helps us ensure your final design is accurate and code-compliant.
3.Key Solar Project Steps: Design & Engineering
After the survey, we finalize your system layout and send it your way for review. Once you approve it, we move right into permitting.
4. Permits + Approvals
We handle everything from city permits to HOA paperwork (if needed). Some areas are quick, some take a little longer, but we stay on top of it and keep you updated along the way.
5. Installation Day
Once we’ve got the green light from your city, we schedule your install. Most residential systems are installed in one day, though larger projects may take a little longer.
We’ll walk you through what to expect beforehand so there are no surprises.
6. Final Inspection
A city inspector visits the property to confirm everything was installed safely and up to code. We coordinate this and meet them on-site.
7. Permission to Operate (PTO)
After passing inspection, we submit the final paperwork to your utility company. Once they issue Permission to Operate, your system is officially live and ready to start producing power.
8. Monitoring Setup
We’ll get you set up with live 24/7 online monitoring so you can track your system’s performance in real time. It’s easy to use, and we’re always here if you need help interpreting the data.
A quick note about timelines:
Project turnaround times can vary depending on your city, county, and utility company. We’ll give you realistic timeframes from the start, and keep you in the loop every step of the way.
